Novocaine: It's a Good Film, so No Anesthetic Needed to Enjoy it

I'm stating the obvious, but 2025 hasn't been a good year for movies so far. Thankfully, Novocaine reminded me why going to the cinema can be such an enjoyable experience. Novocaine is worth your time much more than another recent release like Captain America: Brave New World. I'll explain why.

Novocaine is a wickedly funny film. The people I saw this movie with, as well as the other patrons in the theater, laughed out loud a plethora of times. The humor typically comes from the gore and violence, as Novocaine is a dark comedy. Think John Wick, but without the gravitas. The cast is quite good as well. Jack Quaid plays Nate who goes through quite a journey in Novocaine and feels like a fleshed-out protagonist who you want to root for. There's effective chemistry with the actors and I think Matt Walsh being in a movie automatically makes it better.

It's likely that Novocaine won't end up being one of the top movies of the year, but I'm confident you'll enjoy it if you decide to check it out. There might be some twists you see coming, a fairly one-note villain and some instances that stretch your suspension of disbelief. However, I appreciate Novocaine for being a solid form of escapism that will hopefully get the movies back on track in 2025.
