Wish: Don't Wish Upon this Star

Image
I truly wished (pun intended) that this review would be longer. Part of me was hopeful with the Walt Disney Company celebrating 100 years that Wish would be a quality animated film like so many entries from the past. This review would be longer if I named all the excellent animated Disney movies, but you probably know them as well as I do even if you're not the biggest Disney fan. That's the kind of pop culture impact Disney animation used to have. Unfortunately, I don't see Wish being a film that kids will watch over and over and one day pass along to their kids. The marketing for Wish made it quite clear that the movie was made for a 100-year celebration. There are many references to classic Disney films. Nostalgia and callbacks do not mean a movie is good of course. I'll quickly mention a few things that work in Wish . A couple of the songs you'll want to listen to again afterward. Alan Tudyk is quite funny in the role of Valentino. Admittedly, I'm a sucker...

Good Burger 2: A Fun Stroll Down Drive-Thru Lane

Image
I'll admit as someone who grew up with the original Good Burger (which came out in 1997) I was cautiously optimistic about Good Burger 2 . Nostalgia seems to be mined for all it's worth in today's pop culture landscape. Does Good Burger 2 fall victim to just being nostalgia bait? Thankfully, the short answer is no.  Every so often there is a movie that is exactly what it should be.  Good Burger 2  is such a movie. The film wastes no time in getting us to the inciting incident that kicks off the events of the story. Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell get right back into their roles of Dex and Ed as if no time has passed. I was impressed by how quickly Good Burger 2  gets viewers back into the universe of the movies (you'll see what I mean from the opening minutes). Ed and Dex are obviously older now and both characters are at places in their lives that make a lot of sense for who they are. Ed still works at the fast food restaurant Good Burger and Dex is still a sch...

Hello There!

Welcome fellow moviegoers, cinephiles, and film enthusiasts! I couldn't help myself as I had to use an Obi-Wan Kenobi quote in the title of this post and tweak a line from the Mission Impossible franchise for the name of the blog. Can you blame me when the name of the main character in MI is Ethan Hunt and my name is Hunt? Speaking of my name, I'll share a little bit about myself. Movies have always been both a pastime and a hobby for me. Watching movies is the pastime part. Talking about, researching, reading about, and analyzing is the hobby part. I see this blog as the next logical step in my interest in film appreciation. In all honesty, I'm surprised it's taken me this long to start writing film reviews. I'm the guy whose dad let him watch Jurassic Park for the first time at 5 years old (so I liked dinosaurs even more than most kids). I'm also a guy who likes to have a plan, so I'll share what to expect from this blog real quick. Talking about any and...
