Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga - Another Lovely Day in the Wasteland

Image
It's an old joke that movies with sand are popular among Oscar voters. I find it fun that the two best films of 2024 in Dune: Part Two and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga  take place in desert environments. But enough about sand (if Anakin Skywalker is reading this review I've lost him already), let's talk about Furiosa . The Mad Max films are effective at throwing an audience right into the world. Furiosa continues this tradition quite effectively. As a whole this movie shows the brutality of the wasteland more than any of the other movies. This is one of the ways that this film isn't for everyone (just ask my fiancĂ©e who looked away from the screen multiple times while I soaked it all up). Admittedly, Furiosa should have come out on the heels of Mad Max: Fury Road since it serves as a prequel. I enjoyed the worldbuilding in Furiosa  but can see how there are a lot of factions and locations to keep up with (a fair point brought up by another member of my viewing party). Let...

The Fall Guy: A Love Letter to Stunts, but Movie Stars are what make it work

Image
The Fall Guy is what a summer movie should be. It's entertaining, funny, has good action, and great chemistry between the lead actors. The story doesn't make sense some of the time and you might see some reveals coming before they happen, but it doesn't matter. With a movie as enjoyable as The Fall Guy you're willing to suspend your disbelief a little more than usual. Director David Leitch is a former stuntman and stunt coordinator. In recent years, he's moved into directing (with films like Deadpool 2 ) and producing (the John Wick films). You can tell that The Fall Guy was made to show appreciation for the stunt community. As you'd expect, the stunts in the movie are really good. Even better than the stunts are Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) and Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt). The dynamic between Colt and Jody is established right from the start of The Fall Guy . The characters are fun to watch and you can tell that Gosling and Blunt are having a great time portray...

Flashdance: What a Feeling. A Bad Feeling that is.

Image
Flashdance is a waste of time. I wanted to turn it off, but for some reason decided to keep watching. The soundtrack is good and a few tracks are ones you probably know even without seeing the movie. That's about all I can say that's good about Flashdance , folks. I'm no choreographer, but for a movie about dancing the dancing is terrible. The writing for the movie is just putting the protagonist through certain things to do. There's no character progression present and the story makes little sense. You can tell Flashdance was made by male filmmakers who don't know how to handle a female protagonist. I suppose this movie was a big box office hit because of MTV? Don't watch Flashdance , instead watch a movie that I gave pretty favorable review in Footloose . I suppose I should watch the next 80s dance flick in Dirty Dancing . I won't spend more time on this review since Flashdance wasted my time. See y'all in the next review. Rating:
