Twisters: You'll be Swept up by this Movie
I'll admit that I was skeptical of Twisters when the first trailer dropped. I've never seen Twister, but I feared that Twisters would be an IP brought back to try and make a quick buck. Twisters proved me wrong though.
The first aspect I want to highlight about Twisters is the protagonist Kate (Daisy Edgar-Jones). She's likable, you root for her to succeed, and her journey throughout the film feels earned. I won't get into spoilers, but a tragic incident early in the movie causes Kate to leave behind storm chasing. Kate is convinced to get back into tornado-chasing by her old friend Javi (Anthony Ramos), but I appreciate how it takes Kate time to get acclimated to being around twisters again. Kate isn't some superhero who can hop right back into things with no issue.
It seems like he's been in every film the past few years, but Glen Powell as Tyler is another character who works in Twisters. What you think of him initially changes as the movie progresses. Powell and Edgar-Jones have good chemistry which helps. Whether you like Twisters or not I think a fun exercise could be had by asking people you know if Glen Powell is really handsome. Powell seems to divide the genders as the men I've asked think he is incredibly handsome, while the women think he is handsome but not super good-looking. If any of you decide to poll the people in your life on Powell's handsomeness keep me posted on the results.
The setting of Tornado Alley is obvious for Twisters, but I appreciate how the entire movie was filmed on location in Oklahoma. It's nice to see rural America depicted on screen. The tornadoes in the film look so real and make you feel immersed in the story. Apparently, footage of actual twisters was used in the movie. Certain scenes when tornadoes come through don't hold back when showing the destruction caused and how the people have to fight to survive.
Twisters is a movie this summer that is worthy of your attention. You'll feel like you're on the ground with the tornado chasers and will be interested in the story and characters. There is a subplot of some characters with bad intentions that I found predictable and not well-formed. However, it won't ruin the film for you. My recommendation is to beat the heat and hold onto some popcorn while you get sucked into Twisters.
