A Quiet Place: Day One - A Solid Entry in the Franchise
If you're familiar with the A Quiet Place films you know what to expect. People must make as little noise as possible to avoid detection from alien invaders with ultra-sensitive hearing. I think A Quiet Place: Day One is the weakest entry in the franchise, but it's still an enjoyable movie. You have all the tense moments, scary alien encounters, etc. that you're expecting. I always appreciate how these films take the most seemingly ordinary situations and make them cause the audience to worry because sound is involved. There's a few key aspects in A Quiet Place: Day One that stood out to me.
I have to start with Lupita Nyong'o (Samira) who gives a memorable performance like she always seems to do. The way she looks scared throughout the movie is utterly believable. Without giving anything away, there is a scene early in the film at a puppet show that shows where her mind is as a character based on the circumstances in her life. A Quiet Place: Day One takes place in New York City and I like how the film shows the city from the ground level. You feel immersed in the world and even from a destruction standpoint I appreciate that things like dust and debris stay on the ground throughout the movie. It's those kind of details that make the story feel real.
The A Quiet Place movies are memorable moviegoing experiences. Your heart is racing most of the time watching them and they keep you engaged. I enjoyed the family aspects of the previous two entries more than what occurs in A Quiet Place: Day One. The new entry is still worth checking out, and I value a film franchise that can still make good sequels even if they don't reach the height of the ones that came before it.
