RoboCop: One of the Best Sci-Fi Films?

I'm surprised it took me as long as it did to watch RoboCop. Perhaps hearing about how violent it is (I'll touch on that later) deterred me from it. I'll get right to the point and say that RoboCop lives up to the hype. It's a mixture of action, crime, sci-fi and comedy that works really well. And combining all those genres is tough to do. Overall, I'd classify RoboCop as a satirical film. The violence is done with a purpose and isn't showing violence just for the sake of showing violence. It still is violent don't get me wrong and I can see this as a reason why someone might not watch the film (no problem at all if that is you). Even if a viewer doesn't recognize the satire in RoboCop, it can still be viewed with just as much enjoyment which I find fascinating. The themes and ideas explored in the movie are still relevant today which for better or worse is a sign of sci-fi done well. There's a saying I've heard that good sci-fi isn't about a distant future, but about decisions currently being made and how they will actually affect the world. I can't speak for if RoboCop resonated the same with audiences when it came out in 1987 compared to the current year of 2024, but bascially everything in the film keeps your attention and has you invested and pondering some interesting questions. I really want to keep this review short so you can check out RoboCop on your own if you haven't already or do a rewatch. I do want to reiterate that the violence is a lot and this film isn't for everyone. With that, I'll leave you with one of the movie's taglines which I think serves as something to think about while watching.

"The future of law enforcement."
